2	Lewis was a Cornet in the Revolution, he is listed in the Vouchers of Revolutionary Soldiers of N. C. from the Wilmington District, Voucher #1047, 24 March 1782, L 32-11-0. Married in Duplin and settled about 1788 on Lotts Creek, near Aarons and Portal, Georgia. In 1792 Lewis Lanier was drowned in the Ogeechee River when returning from a visit to his brother; it is said that he was caught in a flash flood. His widow, Margaret, made application August 16, 1794 for Letters of Administration "of Lewis Lanier late of Effingham, now Screven".
