411 20 Sep 2001 - DJC has concluded that this is the Duncan shown on page 222 in the "History of Inverness County" as being the father of Catherine MacDonell married to Angus Chisholm.

Reference should be made to Duncan and his wife Isabel shown on pages 50 & 53 in the Medlam PDF Files and the fact that they and their children all emigrated to Cape Breton.

Chisholm has a copy of a memo in his Files dated May 29, 1893, from his brother, Colin(7) to Mrs. Angus Beaton, Rear Little Judique, Inverness County, in which Colin(7) stated that Rev. 22 Mar 2001 - John commanded about 200 Clansmen at the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715. Roderick XXI was Chief and was present but did not take command as he was too young. At that time John and Roderick had signed a loyal address to George I of England on his accession in 1714 but as this address was ignored they and many other Highland Chiefs fought against the Georgian forces in 1715.

In 1727 Alexander Chisholm of Muckerach redeemed the Strathglass and other lands forefeited by Roderick XXI after the Battle of Sheriffmuir. In 1728 he made over to John(2) for 12,000 merks, the Knockfin and Buntait lands, which had been forefeited.

He had an unnamed daughter who married a MacDonell of Ardnabee, from whom is descended Bishop MacDonell of Kingston, Ontario.

21 Jan 2003 - There were two Thomas Frasers on File until today when they were merged by DJC based on hand written notes on a letter dated May 29, 1893, from a Colin Chisholm in Scotland to Mrs. Angus Beaton in Rear Little Judique. This note written by an S. McNamee (Sadie Chisholm) stated that her maternal grand-mother was a daughter of Tom Chisholm, brother to Bishop Fraser, who had married a Colin Chisholm.

20 Nov 2003 - Peter Duncan Fraser provided date of death from his headstone and age at death, yielding abt. 1789 as year of birth. Previous year of birth on file had been abt. 1792.

26 Feb 2003 - Rod Chisholm located a memo at the Antigonish Heritage Museum dated May 29, 1893, from Colin Chisholm, Namur Cottage, Inverness, Scotland, addressed to Mrs. Angus Beaton, Rear Little Judique, which contained a hand written note signed by S. McNamee, stating the following, "My mother was a grand neice of Bishop Fraser. My maternal grandmother was a daughter of Tom Fraser, a brother of Bishop Fraser. She married Colin Chisholm."

431 21 Sep 2002 - There is some confusion re the data attributed to him which DJC will try to clarify. In a 1935 Obituary Notice sent DJC by Roderick Chisholm in Hamilton, it stated that his wife's name was Anne. John had been ill with Pneumonia and had made a good recovery but died of a blood clot just when he was ready to leave for home. He had been a native of Pomquet River but moved to St. Andrew's in 1912.

Page 221 in "Drummer on Foot" describes a Powder Horn that in 1916 was in the possession of John C. Chisholm. It was brought to Canada by his grandfather; John "Donn" Chisholm who received it in Scotland from one of his Chisholm ancestors. This ancestor had been engaged in a battle during some troublesome times in the Highlands and came across a wounded soldier whom he was unable to assist at that time but did cover him with some turf so as to conceal him from view. In due course this wounded soldier recovered and later had the opportunity of introducing his benefactor to his father who bestowed a Powder Horn on this Chisholm. It was marked with Number 1689 which must have indicated the year that this antique object was executed.

17 Oct 2001 - Donald Chisholm from Cornwall, Ontario, today handed DJC an Obituary Notice for Alexander when DJC visited the Cornwall Heritage Center. Alexander attended College at Kingston, Ontario, and then entered the services of the Hudson's Bay Company, with whom he worked for fourteen years. Before his death he had resided in Payton for the previous 25 years. He wife preceded him in 1929. He left one son Angus and six daughters.
