Mrs. Mary E. Hunt, Dear Daughter,
I avail myself of the opportunity of addressing a few lines to you which will inform you that we are all enjoying moderate good health at present, for which we feel thankful. Hoping these lines may find you and all yours enjoying a similar blessing.
Fannie Ann has very recently received a letter from you which afforded us all no little pleasure to hear from you that you was all well. I had not heard from you in a good while. I did not know whether you were living or dead.
I presume Fanny Ann has informed you of the death of your poor little brother Henry. It is with heart and eyes full that I write you a detailed account the affliction of our family on Sunday morning, the 10th of April. Henry got up and put on his close as usual and was playing about in the yard. The other boys went off but he did not seam to want to go with them as he usually did. I saw him about 8 or 9 o’clock go and lie down on a bench in the yard. But poor fellow he did not lie there long. Before he came into the house and told his mother that he wanted to lie down, that he was sick. He complained of his head aching very bad. But we thought it was probably chill and fever, but he seamed to grow worse gradually. Tuesday morning I examined him and found that he was fast sinking. I went for a Physician at once, but he was too far gone. On Wednesday Evening at 6 o’clock the poor little darling breathed his last. And on Thursday Evening he was consigned to his last resting place. And on the Monday the day after Henry was taken, Sarah was taken and was confined to her bed about 21 days. She was about 5 days upon a balance and I thought several times that I could see her going the way Henry went. But finally the scale turned in her favor and she recovered and on the Sunday following David was taken and was well nigh frenzy, with a pain in his head. But he recovered and was up in a few days. In the mean time, Little Thomas was taken also, but he was soon up again. I would have been glad that you could have seen him but you will never see him in this life again poor little darling is gone to his long home and I trust to a place of Perfect Peace and happiness. I feel satisfied that he is the day walking the Golden Street of the Heavenly Jerusalem. And in conclusion, I would admonish you to try to meet him in heaven. Where you will never part again. I trust you may be prepared to meet him in Paradise.
I would be glad to see you all, but I cannot see you now. But I must see you soon as I can. Write soon and if you should move, you must tell us know where to address you. I close for the Present.

P.S. I made no mention of the disease the children had. The Physician pronounced it typhoid Pneumonia. Your mother was very much affected when Henry died. I laid Henry in the coffin and carried him in the room for Sarah to see him and I verily thought your mother would go into fits. But the old man Felton and his wife talked to her a while and partially pacified her. I will write again before long. I have not heard from Joe in some time he was well when we heard from him.
