There were two James Lamberts living in Decatur County, GA in 1840. James Lambert Sr. was born about 1798 and James Lambert Jr. was born about 1819. On 6/28/1832, James Lambert (Sr- age 34) marries Mary Ann Hines on 6/28/1832 in DCG (Decatur County, GA). James Jr. is only 13 at this time. A "James Lambert" marries Caroline Ro(d)gers on 12/20/1836 in Leon County, FL (James Sr- 38 and James Jr- 17). This James Lambert apparently dies about 1845, after he and Caroline have sons Isaac (b- 1838) and Richard (b-1844), because she remarries (James L. Cartledge) in 1846.
There is also a listing for a James L. Lambert married to Martha J. Hagood on 11/22/1872 in Gadsden, FL. This may have been James Lambert Jr., who would have been 53 at this time or one of his sons?
If this is correct, then it may have been James Lambert Sr. who died in 1845 at age 47.

Isaac Lambert listed his father as being born in "SC" on the censuses, but he might have thought Burke County, GA was a part of SC, since most ot the pioneers of District 22, the Calvary area, originally came from North Carolina and this area was known as the "North Carolina Settlement" until 1877.

The original James Lambert, who was the forefather of these Lamberts, was born in North Carolina and died in Burke County, GA in 1804. He came to Burke County, GA in 1757 with his wife and 3 slaves. By 1769 he had two children and by 1772, he had four children (all children were born in Burke Co. and his wife elsewhere). Andrew Lambert is suspected as being the father of this original James. From "The Families of Burke County, 1755-1855, A Census" by Davis & Lucas:
"Lambert, James, Mar. 1764, Se. yrs. in Ga., Has wife and 3 slaves, asks for 200 acres; Jan. 1768, granted 200 a.; Apl 1769, has 2 children and 4 slaves, asks for 200 a. (formerly owned by Peter Grant dec'd.); July 1769,; granted 200 a., Apl 1771, has 2 more slaves, asks for 100 acres next to Womack and Anthony Stokes; Nov. 1771 granted 50 a.; Jan. 1772; has 4 children, asks for 50 a., Little Buckhead Cr.; Aug. 1790, Capt. 6th Militia; Jan. 1783, signed petition; July 1783, on road commision for Quaker Rd."

Copy of 1840 Decatur County, Georgia Census, page 14 shows:

      James Lambert, Sr. household: males: under 5: 1, 10-15: 1, 15-20: 1, 50 & under 60: 1; females: 5-10: 1, 20-30: 1. (Total of 6 in household)
James Lambert, Jr. household: males: 20--30: 1, females: 15-20: 1. (Total of 2 in household)
They lived next to each other.

      January 2, 1843- Minute Book A of Decatur County, GA, p. 210:
"It appearing to the Court that James Lambert Adms. of Lilliancy Pell Cole (or maybe Call) Late of said County deceased ha made application in the Southern Records a public Gazette of this State four months previous to this term of the Court for having to sell the Lands belonging to the Estate of said deceased and a portion of the Negroes of said deceased. And it further appearing to this Court that the situation of said Estate begin the sale of said property. It is therefore ordered that the said James Lambert have Law to sell the Lands belonging to said Estate and the following Negroes to mit. Hand a man, Jack a man, Albert a man, Lucy a woman and her infant Child and Luci a woman Also and her infant child in terms of the Law.
Whereas it appears to the Court that Caroline Lambert and Ledford Rodgers have made applications for letter of adms. on the Estate of James Lambert, descd. Also appearing to the Court that Elias M. Kemp hath made application for Letter of Admr on siad Estate and It appearing to this Court that Carolina Lambert the dght to said Adms she being the widow of said decd. It is therefore ordered by the Court that Clerk do offer Letters of Administration to said Caroline and Ledford they first giving bond and security in the sum of two thousand dollars and otherwise qualifying according to Law."

It seems that James published notification to sell Lilliancy Pell Cole's land in the Southern Records newspaper about September of 1842, so it appears that James died between September 1842 and January 2, 1843. (If this was James Sr. he would have died about age 45, if James Jr. he would have been about age 24.)

July 3, 1843- Minute Book A of Decatur County, GA, page 219:
"Whereas it appears to this Court that Ledford Rodgers Adm and Caroline Lambert Admsse on the Estate of James Lambert decd hath made application by publication inone of the public gazettes of this state for four months previous to this term of the Court for have to sell all Lands and Negroes belonging to the Estate od said deceased. It is therefore ordered by the Court that the said Admis have Law to sell said Estate in terms of the Law."

Caroline Rodgers Lambert married James L. Cartledge on January 27, 1846. She died during childbirth in May of 1850. Her unnamed son died one month later in June of 1850.

March 2, 1851- Minute Book A of Decatur County, GA, page 401:
"Wherein James L. Cartledge of said County applies for letters of Guardianship to Isaac Richard Lambert orphan of James Lambert late of said County- descd- and shown to the Court that he has given notice in terms of the law of this his said application, there being no objection thereto, it is ordered that the said James Cartledge give bond in the sum of Sixty dollars with Sam (Lem?) Griffin of said County as security, and that he be notified as quardian to Said Isaac Lambert (the said Richard Lambert having been taken by Ledford Rogers formerly of this County beyond the jurisdictional lines of this Court,) before the Clerk of this County- application? (last letters ecation ?) upon his giving the bond and security for said"
So James' two sons are split up. Richard is taken out of Georgia (to Florida?) by his grandfather Ledford Rodgers and Isaac remains in Decatur County, GA with his stepfather James Cartledge.
